Public School Outdoor Education Programs

/files/Pages Images/Outdoor Education/Public School Programs/Public OE2.JPG Outdoor Education program challenges students academically as they explore, identify, and analyze various parts of the natural world.Black Rock Retreat has an Outdoor Education program specifically designed to meet the needs and academic standards of our public school guests.  We believe that every student should have the opportunity to discover and learn about the natural world in a hands-on environment.  This is why we offer an Outdoor Education program for middle school students.  Our  Black Rock Retreat's 100 acre forest, creek, three-quarter acre pond, challenge ropes course, and nature center all provide a unique learning environment for students to grow in their understanding of our natural environement.  Spring and Fall each have unique seasonal characteristics and animal habits that students can study.  Winter is also an excellent season to give students the opportunity to explore the world of winter and see how plants, animals, and humans survive and cope with cold temperatures.  Our Outdoor Education program has been in existence since 1988.

/files/Pages Images/Outdoor Education/Public School Programs/Public OE3.jpgBlack Rock Retreat is a nonprofit, year-round, camp and retreat center.  We are located on nearly 100 acres of woodland in southern Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.  Twelve comfortable bunk-style cabins sleep 10 people each.  The cabins are heated and feature a private bath making year-round retreats cozy and comfortable.  Black Rock also has an indoor gymnasium, lighted outdoor basketball court, playground area, volleyball court, hiking trails, and much more.
